All The Prostitutes In Washington
Aren't Selling Sex
Congressional Prostitutes Offer Votes For Money

Look at all of the major issues facing our country; the economic crisis, the health care crisis, the possibility of a major influenza pandemic, an energy crisis and global warming. Yet, our elected officials are seemingly unable to work together long enough to search for real solutions. Solutions that solve problems rather than just pander to lobbyist.

They are too busy posturing in irrelevant divisive partisan bickering and kowtowing to big moneyed lobbyist so they can raise enough bribes to get reelected.

We've only ourselves to blame if we continue to let our elected representatives steer our nation’s course based on the money given to them by special interest lobbies. It should make every American’s blood boil to hear their congressional representative's hypocritical self-righteous indignation when someone happens to compare the amounts given to them by big moneyed interests with their in sync congressional voting records.

Politicians are quick to point out that their votes on legislation have nothing to do with who gives them money. The vast majority of Americans know this is a bald-faced lie but, like me, feel helpless to stop the practice of congressional votes to the highest bidder.

Organizations like Change Congress are trying to change the system by advocating public campaign finance reform but they face an uphill battle. Needless to say, big moneyed interests aren't about to give up their stranglehold on Congress without a fight and tons of well placed money.

Any company, or affiliation of companies, that has the money to pay can buy as many Senators and House members as they need. Many Democrats and Republicans alike are available to the highest bidder.

What’s best for our nation and the working people of this country (the ones who elected them) doesn’t even enter into the equation. All that matters to most Congressional members is that they take in enough money to assure they get reelected.

These big moneyed interests have their lobbyist in Washington, passing out money to "our" elected representatives by the wheelbarrow full, to get what they want enacted into law.

In exchange for this dirty money, Congressional members will vote the will of their benefactors and how it harms the average constituents who elected them doesn’t matter at all; just as long as they can get reelected.

It wasn’t big banks, big energy, big pharma and big insurance that has brought about the current financial mess our country finds itself in; it was Congressional members who accepted the bribes these big moneyed interests paid them to vote for legislation to suit their greedy personal interests.

For the skeptics who refuse to believe our Congressional members aren’t for sale to the highest bidder, just go to OpenSecrets.org and see who contributed to your Senate and House members. Next go to the Washington Post - Congressional Votes Database and see how your representatives have voted. By doing this your skepticism will probably diminish and your blood pressure will likely rise.

I won’t go so far as to say every Senator and House member is a crook, we do have a few heroes in Congress who really stand up for what they truly believe. But for the vast majority in Congress, it does seem to require a leap of faith to believe it’s just a coincident that most of their “moral values” and votes almost always seem to coincide with those big moneyed interests who helped them buy their congressional seats.

Why the ACLU or some enterprising lawyer hasn’t applied the RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) to Congress is beyond my pay grade; but if there ever was a “Corrupt Organization” it would be the United States Congress.

They lie to get our votes; and with their bought and paid for legislative votes they cause us harm, both financially and even in such life and death matters as a right to basic health care, where thousands of American lives hang in the balance.

We do not have the best government money can buy; we have a bunch of elected prostitutes who would sell their souls, and our futures, to retain their congressional seats.

Note: My apologies for any negative connotations this article might inadvertently cast on all the legitimate prostitutes in Washington who are not in Congress.
